The dates for this year’s WILDLIFE & NATURE ART EXPO at Fort Worden
State Park have been shifted from October 4-5 to
December 13-14. We hope you will join us at the Commons at Fort Worden
for viewing fabulous wildlife art by local and regional artists, and
participating in morning bird watching walks and viewing the daily
wildlife slide presentations. For more information, and to see examples of the participating artist’s work, visit www.wildartexpo.org.
One of the Expo’s featured artists is Peter Mathios. Behind each of Peter’s paintings is inspiration that comes from past experiences. His inspirations originated from hunting ducks with his father and brother in the Suisun Marsh of Northern California. During this time, he became interested in the different species of waterfowl and drew them religiously. Peter even drew the wildlife photos that appeared in hunting magazines as well as fantastic hunting scenes he longed to experience. Upon graduating from the University of California at Davis with a degree in art, Peter moved to Bend, Oregon to hunt, fish, ski, and, above all, paint.
Peter has been selected as the 2009 International Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year and will also be included in the 2008 Pheasants Forever National Art Package. He has also just been selected, for the seventh time, as the Oregon Ducks Unlimited "Artist of the Year" for 2008. Proceeds from these art programs directly benefit wildlife habitat throughout the country. Peter has been juried into the prestigious Birds in Art exhibition three times and has appeared in Wildlife Art and US Art magazines as well as appearing twice on the cover of California Waterfowl. Internationally, he designed the 2001 New Zealand Fish and Game Habitat Stamp.
