Looking for exciting summer camp opportunities for your children? Centrum has a trio of outstanding camps and workshops for middle school and high-school age students, each taking place on the stunning campus of Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend, WA.
For students age 9-13. Spend an exciting week on Puget Sound with marine
scientists and artists, who will take you into the world of whales –
orcas, minkes, grays, humpbacks and others. You'll engage in exciting,
fun-filled activities that merge art and science. Centrum presents Whale Camp in association with the Port Townsend Marine Science Center.
- Examine an orca skeleton at close hand
- Conduct hydrophone research to learn about orca communication
in Puget Sound - Assemble a gray whale skeleton and compare its bones to your
own bones - Experience a simulated whale migration from Baja, California to
Alaska - Create sound and art works based on whales
- Listen to the sounds of the sea – whales, dolphins, shrimp,
grunt sculpins, and others - Take a whale-watching trip and visit to The Whale Museum in
Friday Harbor.
High School Summer Arts Camp: August 8-14, 2010
Take a whole week this summer to dive in to art. At Centrum’s High
School Summer Arts Camp, your days are filled with an intense focus on
the genre of your choice. This summer choose from photography,
installation art, musical theater and poetry – and go for it. The
Centrum experience is about actively learning techniques and habits of
mind used by professionals. Be challenged to use your ideas and make
major leaps in your creative work. Primary workshop sessions include:
- Photographic Storytelling
- Workin' the Poem
- Site-specific Installation and Eco-Art
- Musical and Legit Theatre
DANCE This camp at Centrum provides an opportunity for high-school aged
dancers at all levels to study a wide range of styles and techniques in a
supportive, yet challenging atmosphere.
Students will
participate in African Dance, Ballet, Hip-Hop, Modern Dance and
Choreography workshops featuring instruction from Seattle’s professional dance community with a special guest teacher from Mark Morris Dance Group in New York.
Produced by Seattle Theatre Group, DANCE This brings together
teen performers, choreographers, guest artists and teachers to share
their culture through the art of dance. The DANCE This Program
started in Seattle in 1999 with a performance of cultural and
contemporary dance at the Moore Theatre. It has grown into a
multi-faceted program that includes performances at the Paramount
Theatre, a two-week training Intensive in diverse styles and, the DANCE
This Camp at Centrum.
