Centrum is hosting a one-day-only public exhibition of selections from the Centrum Fine Art Print Collection, on Saturday, March 26, 2011, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM in building 205 on the grounds of Fort Worden State Park.
The Centrum Print Collection represents 20 years of Northwest artistry, as seen through the eyes of Centrum’s Artists’ Residency participants. Centrum’s Artists’ Residency program was created in 1980 to provide selected artists with the time and space to create new work. In 1982 funds were donated to establish a fine art print center, complete with studio space and working presses. Today, with the support of Fort Worden State Park and the Washington State Arts Commission, Centrum’s Residency Program welcomes more than 100 residents of all genres each year, many utilizing the studio and presses with Centrum print studio partner Corvidae Press.
The collection is comprised of over 500 unique images donated to Centrum by Visual Artists in Residence, including Fay Jones, Tina Hoggatt, Michael Spafford, and many others. Proceeds from the sale of these prints will directly support Centrum’s Artist in Residence Program, and Centrum’s mission of supporting excellence in arts education throughout the Northwest.
This one-day-only exhibition will feature an appearance from and Q&A with artist Linda Okazaki, an instructor at Washington State University and Evergreen College, and an Artist in Residence at Centrum in 1993. Ms. Okazaki is the Co-Curator of the Centrum Fine Art Print Collection.
“These prints were always meant to be shared with the public,” said Centrum’s executive director, John MacElwee. “This is an opportunity to see and own a piece of the rich history of fine art at Centrum.”
Selected prints are available for sale and viewing prior to the event by visiting http://centrum.goodsie.com. Parts of the collection are also viewable at www.porttownsendvirtualartmuseum.org.
