Writing From Nature to Benefit Port Townsend Marine Science Center

On Saturday, May 7th, author Sheila Bender will be giving a writing workshop to benefit the Port Townsend Marine Science Center’s summer camp scholarships.

Entitled “Writing from Nature Heals-Using Natural Images to Write Through Loss, Grief and Life Transitions,” the workshop will be held at the Kitchen Shelter at Fort Worden State Park from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In this day-long workshop, memoirist, poet and personal essayist Sheila Bender will lead the group in exploring writing exercises guaranteed to facilitate the flow of your words toward evocation, insight and wisdom.

“Nature delivers the images our subconscious requires to illuminate thoughts and feelings,” Bender says. “There is no more valuable imagery to writers than the sights, sounds, tastes, smells and textures of nature.”

Come learn how to combine your experience of sea life, Admiralty Inlet and its adjacent sand dunes and forest to express what is at the bottom of your heart and mind.

Lunch, snacks and a day pass to the PTMSC exhibits are provided. Registrations are due by April 16. Please call the PTMSC office to register at 360.385.5582, ext. 104 or e-mail info@ptmsc.org. The cost is $99 per person. All proceeds will support the PTMSC Seth Bender Memorial Camp Scholarship program.
