The week of May 31- June 3, 2011, the entire sixth grade student body and their teachers from Blue Heron Middle School in Port Townsend, WA came to Centrum to delve deeply into art.
The Blue Heron Tales, Texts, & Theater program is a full immersion into arts education. The core concept is to include Visual Art, Dance & Movement, Literary Art, Music and Theater so that students have the opportunity to experience a wide range of creative arts not typically offered in the regular school curriculum.
For the last nine years, Centrum, PT ArtScape and Blue Heron have combined funding, fundraising efforts and planning to make this program an integral part of the school year. Kudos to the artist faculty, teachers and students who made this year’s program a wonderful success!
“Tales,Texts, and Theater was great, I’m sad it’s over. My core class was theater improv. My other classes were marimba, creative writing, and hip hop. The best part of my week had to be when I was on stage performing with my core class in front of all my classmates.” -Blue Heron Sixth Grade Student
