(The Canote Brothers, appearing December 9-11 at the Seattle Folk Festival)
Hearth Music is presenting the second annual Seattle Folk Festival this weekend, December 9-11 – and they’re featuring a number of Centrum artists as part of their Appalachian Winter theme!
Fiddle Tunes alumni Riley Baugus and Kirk Sutphin from North Carolina (Riley did much of the music in the film Cold Mountain and collaborates with T-Bone Burnett) will be on hand, as will Centrum’s former Slide & Steel Artistic Director Orville Johnson, joined by famed folk songwriter Laura Love. The Seattle Folk Festival also features former Voice Works faculty Elizabeth LaPrelle, and perennial favorite Pharis Romero (returning to Voice Works in 2012) – Plus fiddler Anna Roberts-Gevalt who was a tutor at Fiddle Tunes a few years ago. And of course, longtime Centrum favorites The Canote Brothers, and the Tallboys (both coming to Fiddle Tunes in 2012), and plenty of artists new to our ears as well!
The festivities take place this weekend, December 9-11, at Columbia City Theater and Town Hall Seattle, plus a few other venues in Columbia City. They include a special square dance with Riley Baugus and Kirk Sutphin and the Tallboys, an Indie Roots showcase at Columbia City Theater, the gala Appalachian Winter concert on Saturday night, and a fun Sunday Family Jam at Town Hall Seattle with Laura Love & Orville Johnson, Jackstraw, Northern Departure and more!
