UPDATE: THE FREE FRIDAYS NOON CONCERT WILL BE MOVED INSIDE THE COMMONS AT FORT WORDEN IF IT LOOKS TO RAIN.

On Friday, August 2, 2013, at 11 am at Fort Worden State Park’s Chapel Building, Centrum presents a free Concert for Kids. The show features Lightnin’ Wells and Jay Summerour in a hilarious, kid-friendly performance.

For this concert, Lightnin’ Wells will perform tunes from his CD Jump Little Children: Old Songs for Young Folks, designed with the younger listener in mind. These re-mastered home recordings offer a wide variety of American roots music including children’s favorites, blues, folk tunes, old-time music and vaudeville. Lightnin’ will be joined by blues harmonica player Jay Summerour who has been involved with music for well over 40 years. Summerour learned the harmonica from his grandfather Smack Martin. Largely self-taught, Summerour picked up bits and pieces from folks he ran into like Sonny Terry and James Cotton.

In addition to these tunes, Lightnin’ and Jay will offer a little workshop on whistling for the young and young at heart. Don’t miss this opportunity to share in an American cultural experience with your children. Admission is FREE thanks to the Congdon-Hanson family.

At noon that very same day, Centrum wraps up its popular Free Fridays at the Fort concert series with a wonderful blues set featuring George Rezendes, Dave Meis, and Jon Parry.

The concert starts at noon outside the Nora Porter Commons at Fort Worden, and is free, Bring a chair and a picnic lunch – we’ll also have food available for purchase.
