The first in a series of broadcast concerts from Jazz Port Townsend will air on Jazz Northwest on 88.5 KNKX and knkx.org on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at 2pm. The opening Friday evening concert of the 45th annual festival featured the duo of clarinetist Anat Cohen and 7 string guitarist Marçello Goncalves, recorded in McCurdy Pavilion at Fort Worden.
Anat Cohen and Marçello Goncalves met in Brazil while the former was touring there. They formed a friendship that led to recording an album Outra Coisas featuring orchestral music of Moacir Santos arranged by Gonçalves for guitar and clarinet. They play some of that music here as well songs by Milton Nascimento and Anat Cohen.
Jazz Northwest airs every Sunday at 2 PM Pacific on 88.5 KNKX and streams at knkx.org. After broadcast, shows are archived and may be streamed on demand at jazznw.org. The program is recorded and produced by host Jim Wilke for KNKX.
