Founded in 2015, the Centrum Chamber Music Workshop fosters the highest level of training and coaching for pre-professional chamber musicians in community with leading faculty chamber artists. The workshop serves outstanding emerging, pre-formed ensembles. Two string quartets or piano trios from the country’s leading programs will be invited to a week of rigorous coaching with the world-renowned Dover Quartet and Artistic Director Lucinda Carver. Each participant is awarded a full scholarship including tuition, travel, accommodations and meals. Participants will appear in a public masterclass and a performance.

Admission to the workshop is merit-based and highly competitive. Past participants have included students from Curtis, The Juilliard School, Eastman, USC, Indiana University, Rice, CIM and the New World Symphony.

Artistic Director Lucinda Carver is a Professor of Piano at the USC Thornton School of Music, where she also serves as Vice Dean of the Division of Classical Performance. Carver has appeared as soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Pacific Symphony and at prestigious chamber music festivals across the United States and in Europe.

Our faculty quartet-in-residence, the Dover Quartet, catapulted to international stardom in 2013 following a stunning sweep of all prizes at the Banff Competition and has since become one of the most in-demand ensembles in the world. In addition to its faculty role as the inaugural Penelope P. Watkins Ensemble in Residence at the Curtis Institute of Music, the Dover Quartet holds residencies with the Kennedy Center, Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University, Artosphere, and the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival. Among the group’s honors are the Avery Fisher Career Grant, Chamber Music America’s Cleveland Quartet Award, and Lincoln Center’s Hunt Family Award. Equally comfortable with repertoire from a range of eras, the quartet has worked with some of the world’s foremost living composers, including Caroline Shaw and Mason Bates. The quartet’s recent collaborators include Emanuel Ax, Inon Barnaton, Ray Chen, Edgar Meyer, Anthony McGill, the Escher Quartet, and Roomful of Teeth.
