Founded in 2015, the Centrum Chamber Music Workshop fosters the highest level of training and coaching for pre-professional chamber musicians in community with leading faculty chamber artists. The workshop serves outstanding emerging, pre-formed ensembles. Two string quartets from the country’s leading programs will be invited to a week of rigorous coaching with the world-renowned American Quartet and Artistic Director Lucinda Carver. Each participant is awarded a full scholarship including tuition, travel, accommodations and meals. Participants will appear in a public masterclass and a performance.
Admission to the workshop is merit-based and highly competitive. Past participants have included students from Curtis, The Juilliard School, Eastman, USC, Indiana University, Rice, CIM and the New World Symphony.
Artistic Director Lucinda Carver is the former Professor of Piano at the USC Thornton School of Music, where she also served as Vice Dean of the Division of Classical Performance. She is currently interim Executive Director at the Boston Conservatory of Music at Berklee. Carver has appeared as soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Pacific Symphony and at prestigious chamber music festivals across the United States and in Europe.
Our faculty quartet-in-residence, the American Quartet, is internationally recognized as one of the world’s finest quartets and has spent decades honing the luxurious sound for which it is famous. The Quartet celebrated its 45th anniversary in 2019, and, in its years of touring, has performed in all fifty states and has appeared in the most important concert halls worldwide. The group’s presentations of the complete quartets of Beethoven, Schubert, Schoenberg, Bartók, and Mozart have won widespread critical acclaim, and their MusicMasters Complete Mozart String Quartets, performed on a matched quartet set of instruments by Stradivarius, are widely considered to have set the standard for this repertoire.
The application deadline is April 14. Follow this link for how to apply.
