Get a behind-the-scenes look at meditation on: woven fishing ports during an Open Studios session with artist ebere agwuncha.

Visitors are invited to stop by the South Gallery while agwuncha works on fishing nets that will become the primary elements of their site-responsive installation. Learn about the weaving process, the history and craft traditions behind net-making, and how this work connects Port Townsend’s fishing legacy with Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

This is a great opportunity to meet the artist, ask questions, and witness the installation process in real time.

About the Artist
ebere agwuncha is an Igbo-American artist and educator born and based in Chicago, IL. Their practice draws from archives, personal stories, collected ephemera, and researched collections to create functional objects, sculpture, and site-responsive installations rooted in cultural preservation. Working across fibers, ceramics, and woodworking, agwuncha employs traditional craft techniques including basket weaving, cane wrapping, jute fish netting, willow weaving, and more.

In summer 2025, agwuncha began facilitating “woven together,” a series of free basket weaving workshops celebrating ancestral memory through collective making.

Centrum’s residency programs and exhibitions are made possible through the generosity of Sally Warren & Jeff Jackson, Cathy Sarkowsky, Cat Clifford, The Chin Family Foundation, The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, and numerous granting agencies.
