About
Grace Kaste is from Seattle, Washington. She has played music for most of her life, beginning with classical piano before picking up the double bass in middle school. Jazz took over her life once she began studying with bassist Chuck Deardorf, as well as playing in the Roosevelt Jazz Band under the direction of Scott Brown. She was a 2022 YoungArts Finalist.
She is now a graduating senior at Columbia University in New York, where she plays in the jazz and bluegrass ensembles, studies jazz double bass with Ugonna Okegwo and has won awards for her jazz compositions. She has performed in Seattle at venues like the Earshot Jazz Festival and the Seattle Jazz Fellowship, and she has taught music theory and bass at educational organizations in Seattle, New York, and Berlin.
