Spring YAWP

April 11-14, 2019
Fort Worden State Park, Port Townsend, WA

This event is full: registrations are no longer being accepted.

Nosy deer, blooming daffodils, sky blue after a gray winter, green grass. High cirrus clouds and intensive freewrite sessions—and all the time and space and the light of April to create new work.

This will be our eleventh YAWP program—bringing writers together from all over the country who want a long weekend retreat to read, write, and revise, across all genres. To howl, in Walt Whitman’s words, our “barbaric yawp.”

Cost: $275. Have you published fifty novels? $275. Are you writing your first-ever poem? $275. This residency fee covers your private room and access to the morning freewrites. Meals are not included: what happens at YAWP is that some folks contribute together for communal meals and some folks prepare their own meals in the kitchens provided and some folks go into town for the fine restaurants that Port Townsend has to offer.

Two- and three-cabin bedrooms are shared among YAWP participants: each person gets their own private bedroom, with a shared kitchen, living area, and bathroom.
