Centrum is pleased to announce the selection of the 2016 cohort of Emerging Artist Residencies. The selected finalists are Nolan Calisch, Ka’ila Farrell-Smith, Satpreet Kahlon, Antonia Pinter, Zorn Taylor, and Storme Webber.
Centrum’s Emerging Artist Residency is an initiative to support artists at the beginning of their career trajectory. Centrum invites a cohort of six visual artists from the Northwest region to be in residence during the month of October each year. The artists are provided with housing, studio space and a stipend, while they spend the month creating new work or refining existing work.
Now in its third year, the program begins in January by asking educators and cultural producers from British Columbia, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Washington and Oregon to nominate artists who are then invited to apply for the residency.
In 2016, we invited 62 artists who came from the Northwest, including British Columbia, Montana, Oregon and Washington to apply for the Emerging Artist Residency. Centrum Program Manager Martha Worthley asks a panel of jurors to review the applications and then they come together as a group to make to selection of finalists. We received 21 applications that were then reviewed by an independent jury which included Anne Couillaud, Ellen Lesperance, Matthew Offenbacher and Jessica Powers.
