This option includes:

  • Six classes – Monday, July 30 through Friday, August 3 from 3:30 to 5 pm, and Saturday at 10am;
  • Free admission to all evening activities, jams, and dances during the workshop;
  • Free admission (and excellent seats) to the McCurdy Pavilion mainstage show, Routes of the Blues, on August 4;
  • The opportunity to open this show in McCurdy Pavilion.

The Gospel Track costs $160.00, and does not include admission to “Blues in the Clubs.”

Artistic Director Daryl Davis chose a choir director that will bring home the flavor and soul of gospel music. This summer during blues week at Centrum, vocalist Angela Hill of Washington, Maryland will lead the gospel choir through some of her favorite spirituals.

About this year’s workshop Angela says, “Today’s gospel music has many diverse sounds and styles. It ranges from the Negro spirituals born out of a time passed, to the more contemporary sounds of popular gospel artists and choirs noted today. Gospel music originated as a religious form of praise and spiritual worship through song. We will experience the joy of singing this soulful art form while learning musical selections from both traditional and contemporary styles. Vocal techniques and performance skills will also be a part of this fun and exciting workshop!”

And once you’ve polished your gospel singing chops, you’ll join Angela to open the blues mainstage concert, Routes of the Blues, at McCurdy Pavilion on Saturday August 4th, 1:30pm.
