Paquito Podcast

A Note From Associate Director Gregg Miller

Ever since I’ve been involved in presenting Jazz Port Townsend I’ve been torn between what I like best: thePaquito_drivera2_2 hang-it-all-out-there, flat-out fun of the Faculty Presents concerts on weekday afternoons, the excitement of the crowds at the Mainstage shows, or the intimacy and intensity of a packed house at a Jazz in the Clubs venue. Of course, you don’t have to choose. In fact, I don’t even want to try. They’re all great in their own way.

KPLU’s Jim Wilke, host of Jazz Northwest and Jazz After Hours and longtime Emcee of Centrum’s Mainstage concerts, couldn’t choose either. So on last week’s Jazz Northwest show on KPLU Jim included music by Paquito D’Rivera he recorded this past July from both his Mainstage and Faculty Presents sets. Wow. Here’s a link to the podcast of that show.  www.kplu.org/wilke.html. Did I mention Wow? If you heard any of this at the workshop or festival, you’ll want to hear it again. If you didn’t, check it out and promise yourself not to miss anything next summer! Thanks to Jim Wilke for including this and other recordings from Jazz Port Townsend on his show.
