In October 2015, Centrum is hosting two weeks of the Port Townsend Ukulele Festival at Fort Worden. Week one is sold out, but we still have limited space for Week Two!

For two separate sessions, ukulele lovers from around the nation will gather for some serious fun, ukulele instruction, and merry music making with some of the finest ukulele instructors and players working today.

Artistic Director Marianne Brogan has assembled a world-class faculty for the gathering.  The workshop offerings will feature a wide variety of styles – jazz, blues, swing, Hawaiian, 60s music, pop, big band, novelty, and jugband ukulele – as well as introductory-level sessions, chords, melody, improvisation, and performing tips.

One of the amazing musicians coming to share their passion for the ukulele is Aaron Keim, a founding member of the duo The Quiet American. Before forming the Quiet American, Aaron was known for his work with the well-loved Colorado Roots band Boulder Acoustic Society.Over 8 years, the band built a passionately loyal following, but Aaron found that their diverse sound was keeping him from his passion for old time folk music. In a quest to get “back to basics,” he turned inwards, moving to the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon to work as a luthier for Mya-Moe Ukuleles.

The Quiet American has recently released a new recording, “Wild Bill Jones,” which is garnering some impressive kudos.
