The Port Townsend Writers’ Conference is a rigorous, craft-focused community for writers, editors,Picture 002  translators, and readers working in a variety of styles.

It all started in 1974 with the founding of the Conference by novelist Bill Ransom, who envisioned an egalitarian, non-hierarchical conference where the emphasis was on the craft of literary writing.

In the years since, such dynamic writers and welcomers as Jim Heynen, Carol Jane Bangs, Sam Hamill, Rebecca Brown, and many, many others continued this emphasis on the writing craft over the next few decades, and the Conference has become an annual pilgrammage for many.

Whether you’re seeking to create or revise new work, find writing community, or simply desire a writing retreat in an inspirational location, the Port Townsend Writers’ Conference is at the heart of the thriving Pacific Northwest literary scene and is designed to take you to the next level in your craft and your Picture 052 vision.

Whether you’re new to writing, and seeking an inspirational environment to create new work; looking for advanced post-MFA revision workshops; or simply desire to renew and recharge yourself in a writing retreat, the Port Townsend Writers’ Conference gives you the craft and connections to make breakthroughs in your work.

Next year’s Conference happens for two weeks: July 8-15, and then again from July 15-22.
