About

Valerie Kirchhoff (aka “Miss Jubilee”) is a vocalist and bandleader born and raised in St. Louis. Valerie grew up singing in church and school choirs, and discovered a passion for early jazz and blues while in her teens. She formed her first band in 2007 and has been a staple of the St. Louis music scene ever since. Valerie champions the female blues singers of the 20s and 30s, with a particular focus on the lesser known singers from St. Louis.
In 2014 she began collaborating with pianist Ethan Leinwand. In larger ensembles and as a duo (The St. Louis Steady Grinders), they have performed across the United States and Europe, and can be seen playing regularly in their hometown.

“I was stunned by the emotional energy [Valerie] brought to every phrase — genuine, with no hint of coy play-acting — her swing, her casual accuracy, her force, her lovely impassioned phrase-ending vibratos, again without artifice.”
-Michael Steinman. Jazz Lives
