The Guard Shack at Fort Worden, across from the Wheeler Theater and Taps has been lovingly renovated back to it’s former glory. Friends of Fort Worden volunteers led the project carefully adhereing to the State Park Historic Preservation Officer detailed guidelines. While it looks happier in situ than in the boneyard, it’s future use and location are still under discussion. Maybe volunteers will be selling tickets or proffering information in the future from the Guard Shack! We are still working on logistics for our upcoming season so please stay tuned for news and I’ll keep you informed of any volunteer needs as they crop up. COMMUNIVERSITY
Centrum’s Communiversity first lecture of the year is fast approaching and we’re hoping you’ll be able to join us from the comfort of your home for this spectacular presentation by award winning National Geographic photographer, Joel Sartore.
Sartore’s Photo Ark lecture promises to be entertaining and educational for all the family. Through his ambitious twenty-five year task of cataloging every animal species in captivity, many of which are endangered, Sartore is “giving the voiceless a voice” in the hope of moving the viewer to protect species before it’s too late. The message is unexpectedly upbeat and hopeful and it’s uplifting to know that there are practical things we can be doing in our daily lives to check extinction.
Please attend this virtual event on Monday March 1 and you’ll be supporting Centrum and the Photo Ark project, while being thoroughly entertained!

CENTRUM’S OWN MICHELLE HAGEWOOD EXHIBITS AT NORTHWIND
Centrum’s Artist Residency Program Manager, Michelle Hagewood, is exhibiting at Northwind Art. Between welcoming a revolving door of artists of all disciplines to Centrum’s Artists-in-Residence program, Michelle has found the time to present her own work, in collaboration with fellow artist Lauren Boilini. You can visit their exhibit “Entangled” until the end of March and in the meantime, listen to them geeking out about their craft tonight, February 11 at 7 pm. Free registration is required to listen to Michelle and Lauren’s interview and if you miss the live discussion tonight, a recording will be available soon on the Northwind Art website.

A digital story is a short form film, 3 minutes or less, that is based on solo voiced narration. It is the perfect form for writers, who can turn a poem or short piece of prose into visual magic. Exploring the work of digital storytellers and their students, this panel discussion features writer, teacher and filmmaker Perrin Kerns, winner of the Director’s Choice award and Best Short Animation from the Oregon Independent Film Festival, Cameron Scott, Digital storyteller and English Language Arts instructor for 7th-12th graders, and Firozeh Darabi, filmmaking student.
