Centrum is pleased to announce the selection of the 2015 cohort of Emerging Artist Residencies. The selected finalists are Alex Boeschenstein, Thomas Gamble, Patricia Vasquez Gomez, Katy Knowlton, Quinton Maldonado, and Rebecca Peel.
Centrum is now in the second year of its initiative to support artists at the beginning of their career trajectory. The Emerging Artists Residency is a month-long residency with housing, studio space and a stipend provided to six visual artists. The month-long residency takes place October 19-November 16, 2015.
Finalists are selected through an invitation only process. Centrum’s residency program manager, Martha Worthley, contacts educators from throughout the Northwest, Alaska and Canada to nominate artists who have graduated form a fine arts program within the last five years. The nominated artists are then invited to apply.
Worthley works with independent jurors who review the applications and make the final selection. This year’s jurors were Scott Lawrimore, curator at the Jacob Lawrence Gallery at the University of Washington, Visual artist C. Davida Ingram and Nina Bozicnik, curator at the Henry Art Gallery.
This year’s applicants were a strong group and the jurors were pleased to have this group from which to choose.
Centrum’s goal is for the artists to deepen their practice and spend a month in community with other artists. With a campus surrounded by beaches and a hillside of forest, we anticipate that the environment and situation will be inspirational and productive.
