High School Summer Arts Camp theater instructor Erwin Thomas has been rehearsing this fall for a production at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, Janáček’s FROM THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD.
"I'm uniquely excited about this exploration in creation. The ensemble of 19 other actors that I'm a part of are truly gifted! We courageously bridge the gulf between Opera as a classic but often static form and Theater as an active integrated experience. The piece is set in a Siberian Prison camp and much of it deals with the ways that human light shines and or is suppressed within a gray oppressive environment," says Thomas. "The director, Patrice Chéreau, shares an infectious passion in the pursuit of his vision combined with masterful storytelling and heart stopping world class singers."
Join Thomas this summer when he and Nicco Annan take on a workshop in musical theater.
Musical and Legit Theatre
Nicco Annan and Erwin Thomas
If you have wanted to gain some experience with musical theatre this may be for you. The focus in this workshop will be on character development, musicality, and the physical life of each character and the worlds they inhabit. The emphasis is on taking day to day experiences and bringing them to life through the art of acting with a musical twist. No need to worry if you are not a singer; students with all levels of experience are all welcome. What is required are passion and commitment to the work in order for all to play.
