A Special Opportunity to Honor John Clayton at Jazz Port Townsend

John Clayton has made an indelible mark on a generation of musicians in his 20+ years as artistic director of Jazz Port Townsend. Join Centrum to celebrate John’s legacy as a teacher, leader, and artist with a gift to The John Clayton Jazz Fund.

“Thank you so much, John Clayton, for fostering such a welcoming and inclusive environment for jazz. I was able to attend Centrum twice in high school and again in my twenties, and it really laid the groundwork for my career in music. The sheer passion for jazz that my mentors in the program had has really inspired me and has been very influential.”
Sidney Hauser is a teacher, designer, band leader, and saxophonist with the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra.

John has led Jazz Port Townsend with uncompromisingly high standards and incredible warmth since 2004. Under his guidance, learners have had life-changing creative experiences with some of the best players in the field, and audiences have shared in extraordinary world-class performances. Thanks to his leadership, the Jazz “family” is a shining example of Centrum’s vision to build a world of greater inclusion and connection through the arts.

The John Clayton Jazz Fund will support Centrum’s commitment to artistic excellence and accessibility by providing Jazz Diversity scholarships to students of color, and those with financial need, in John Clayton’s name, and by bringing exceptional teaching artists to share their knowledge and talent.

Thank you for helping Centrum mark this special moment and acknowledge John Clayton’s remarkable work.

Thanks to leadership gifts from an anonymous donor, Michael and Lucille Peak, and Jerome Levine, the first $5,000 to this fund will be matched!

THANK YOU FOR BEING THE BRIGHT HEART OF CENTRUM!

Together, we can create a place where anyone from anywhere can nurture their
creativity in an environment that is supportive, challenging, and uplifting.
