The Port Townsend Main Street association is hosting a community effort (supported by Centrum and Fort Worden State Park) to certify areas within Port Townsend as a Creative Arts District. Many local artists and arts organizations are involved in planning for this. The Washington State Arts Commission (ArtsWA) governs these new certifications. Port Townsend will be submitting its application for certification in October. To date, fewer than five communities in Washington have earned this designation.

Main Street will be holding a community meeting on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. at Fort Worden to welcome community input into this process (Fort Worden Commons).  All are welcome to attend.  This is a free event.

A committee of volunteers will present information about the requirements for certification, and share its strategies for coordinating an application on behalf of Port Townsend.  this effort is endorsed by the City of Port Townsend, Jefferson County Chamber, and others and is intended to benefit local artists, arts organizations, and our local arts economy.
