Dr. Sandra Walker Joins Centrum Board

Centrum Board President, Scott Wilson, announced today that Dr. Sandra Walker, of Seattle, has been unanimously elected to the Centrum board of directors. Walker is a practicing psychiatrist and psychoanalyst in Seattle and does some clinical teaching at the Seattle Psychoanalytic Society and Institute as well as at the University of Washington, consulting with residents on their cases.

Sandy knows Centrum best through her participation in the Jazz workshop each year since 2007. She is a jazz drummer. Sandy’s interest in jazz and her connections with other parents of musical students led to her involvement with the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra board over the past decade. She is an ardent supporter of SRJO’s Clarence Acox Jazz Scholars program promoting youth music education.

Sandy is broadly interested in fostering artistic exposure, expression, and artist development, with a special focus on greater access for youth of color and appreciation of “home grown” talent.

Other board experience has included such organizations as the former Seattle Child Guidance Center, United Way, Black Psychiatrists of America, and the American Psychoanalytic Association. For a number of years, Sandy was a nonvoting ex officio guest of the board of the American Psychiatric Association.
