Centrum welcomes you to a special Performance + Visual Lecture by artist ebere agwuncha, presented in conjunction with their installation meditation on: woven fishing ports.

This presentation—also titled “meditation on: woven fishing ports”—weaves together film excerpts, archival images, journal entries, and videos of Port Townsend to explore fishing practices and the craft of net-making across place and time. The lecture connects to archives documenting the fishing industry in Port Townsend and Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and reflects on the often unseen labor embedded in maritime trades.

This event offers a deeper lens into the research and personal history behind agwuncha’s installation, and is a unique opportunity to experience the project in a live, time-based format.

About the Artist
ebere agwuncha is an Igbo-American artist and educator born and based in Chicago, IL. Their practice draws from archives, personal stories, collected ephemera, and researched collections to create functional objects, sculpture, and site-responsive installations rooted in cultural preservation. Working across fibers, ceramics, and woodworking, agwuncha employs traditional craft techniques including basket weaving, cane wrapping, jute fish netting, willow weaving, and more.

In summer 2025, agwuncha began facilitating “woven together,” a series of free basket weaving workshops celebrating ancestral memory through collective making.
