Some quick updates from our amazing dance faculty for 2015 DANCE This summer workshop for high school dancers.
Ellie Sandstrom (pictured) has been steadily running the Dance Department at The Northwest School, and recently competed two new choreographic commissions. One of the commissions was for Creative Dance Center’s Kaleidoscope Dance Company for youth. The piece, set on 10 students (ages 10-17), was recently performed at their spring concert at Broadway Performance Hall in Seattle. The other commission was for Evoke Production’s Full Tilt performance at Velocity Dance Center in Seattle. She worked with a cast of 6 adult dancers that auditioned for their spot; she created the piece quickly, in just two weeks! Sandstrom also participated in Amy O’Neal’s newest show, Opposing Forces, which premiered at On The Boards in Seattle.
Dora Oliveira recently performed at World Rhythm Festival as part of Dance Brazil. She also danced and taught at Seattle Folklife and Sundiata.
Oliveira was a featured guest presenter at the Western Washington University Brazilian Celebration. She discussed how she is sharing her cultural heritage with Seattle youth as part of a panel of Latina Artists at Casa Latina.
