Vocalist
Johnaye Kendrick is a 2-time Grammy® Award-winning vocalist, arranger, composer, orchestrator, and multi-instrumentalist whose work bridges innovation and tradition. With a Master of Music from Loyola University and an Artist Diploma from the Herbie Hancock Institute, Johnaye brings her dynamic artistry to both original compositions and reimagined jazz classics. A committed educator, she serves as Professor of Music at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. Through her johnygirl record label, launched in 2014, Johnaye released two acclaimed albums, HERE and FLYING. She earned consecutive Grammy® Awards for Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals in 2024 and 2025, celebrating her collaborations with vocal group säje and Jacob Collier. A recipient of multiple prestigious grants and residencies, including the Jack Straw Creative Residency, Marble House Creative Residency and the Chamber Music America New Jazz Works Grant, Johnaye continues to craft music that is both authentic and profoundly impactful.
