July 22: Abakis at Free Fridays at the Fort

TODAY’S EVENT WILL BE HELD IN THE WHEELER THEATER IN THE EVENT OF RAIN.  JOIN US!

Don’t miss our July 22, 2016  Free Fridays at the Fort concert with Abakis. Abakis (a.k.a. Aba Kiser) creates collaborative music that bridges new and old worlds: a delicate blend of classic soul led by powerhouse vocals and Kottke-style fingerpicking guitar.

Free Fridays at the Fort is Centrum’s popular lunchtime concert series that takes place on the lawn of the Nora Porter Commons at Fort Worden State Park. Performances begin at 12pm and last until 1pm, and are free. In the rare event of inclement weather, alternative plans will be posted on the Centrum website.

Remaining 2016 shows:

  • July 29, 2016 – Jazz Port Townsend Participant Big Band led by Clarence Acox
  • August 5, 2015 – Port Townsend Acoustic Blues Festival Showcase with Valerie and Ben Turner, with Phil Wiggins

Sponsored by the Congdon-Hanson Family, Steve and Cheryl Rafoth, First Federal Community Foundation, and KPTZ 91.9 FM

Born and bred in Virginia where she learned to sing jazz in her father’s restaurant, Aba migrated westward to find collaborators in the woodland pockets of Washington State. On her newly released album “I’m One Too”  the nuanced complexity of her raw folk songs have expanded to contain an entire orchestra thanks to the generosity of composer, collaborator and producer Kate Copeland. After a sojourn in Brooklyn and points east, Aba has returned to Washington state to make the northwest her home.
