The Hermitage Piano Trio will perform at Centrum on Oct. 30 in the first of a five-concert Chamber Music Series that stretches into June.

“I first heard the trio’s cellist, Sergey Antonov at a concert at USC,” Lucinda Carver (Centrum’s Artistic Director for Chamber Music) said of how she discovered the Hermitage Trio. “I was absolutely blown away by his playing. He demonstrated such a variety of tonal and musical imagination and had a phenomenal command of the instrument.”

Violinist Misha Keylin said the trio’s goal is to always cater to the audience.

“We want to take them on a journey, which has to be balanced but yet entertaining. We always try to include at least two different/contrasting periods so that it all doesn’t sound the same. Imagine having a meal at a fine restaurant. If you just ate three or four desserts, how would you feel?”

Keylin, Antonov and pianist Ilya Kazantsev form the trio. Based in the U.S., they have taught at prestigious schools across the country and recorded for Naxos and ALM Records. Cellist Sergey Antonov is the artistic director of the concert series for the Chamber Music Foundation of New England and gold prize winner at the VIII International Tchaikovsky Competition.

For October’s concert, the trio will perform: Suk – Elegie, Op.23; Mendelssohn – Trio No. 2 in C minor, Op. 66; Glinka – Trio Pathetique; Shostakovich – Trio No. 2 in E minor, Op. 67.

Lucinda Carver is the Artistic Director of Centrum’s Chamber Music Series. She is a pianist, harpsichordist, and conductor as well as Vice Dean of Division of Classical Performance and Composition at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music.
