Remedios Rapoport is a Centrum artist-in-residence between February and April, continuing work on her painting series “Sacred Earth Holy Water” and reworking two paintings for exhibitions associated with the Oregon County Fair in June and July. These paintings reflect on the visionary aspects of the fair, its location, and the artist’s own history with the event over the past 42 years.

As part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the Fair, Rapoport will be exhibiting a suite of new and revisited works that date back to the poster she made for the 1993 fair. This brush and ink illustration and a silk screened print, based on the painting Fair Magic Making Dreams into Reality, will be showing along with new black-and-white color-your-own posters at the Multnomah County Library in June. Also in June and July, Rapoport will be exhibiting the paintings Fair Magic Making Dreams into Reality and Cream of Veneta at the Lane County Historical Museum in Eugene, Oregon.

A Pacific Northwest artist who works between Portland and Port Townsend, she combines paint with various media and materials. Created to stimulate social change and protect communities and natural environments, her dynamic work has been collected and exhibited in galleries, national and international museums with the support of the Oregon Arts Commission and the Regional Arts and Culture Council of Portland, Oregon. Exhibitions have taken her work to communities in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, New York, Chicago, and Buenos Aires.
