The 2013 Port Townsend Ukulele Festival begins on September 11 with sold-out workshops at Fort Worden State Park.

The Festival also features two evenings of public performances, Friday, September 13 (read concert preview) and Saturday, September 14. Shows begin at 7:30pm at the Joesph F. Wheeler Theater. Tickets are general admission – $15, purchase online.

Mandalyn May

Mandalyn Kaiulani McClelland May brings a refreshing twist to the world of songwriting on ukulele, guitar, & mountain dulcimer. Mandalyn has performed and instructed at Knockengorroch Festival, DaSilva’s Ukulele Studio, the Wine Country Ukulele Festival, Eugene’s UKEtoberfest, the Santa Cruz Ukulele Club, and Sacramento’s Ukulele University. She also produces the We Heart Ukulele Festival in Chico, CA,

Piper Heisig

Piper Heisig, from San Luis Obispo, California, is a musician, singer, songwriter, teacher and producer, who can be heard singing and playing bass or percussion in a number of bands on the Central Coast. She has recorded over 20 albums and her name has appeared on many band rosters including, “Old Mother Logo”, “Lone Star”, “Those Darn Accordions” and “Cats & Jammers.”.Piper is the music director for hula halau “Na Mele ‘O Ke Kai” in Morro Bay, California.

Marcy Marxer and Cathy Fink

GRAMMY winners Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer are sometimes known as the first ladies of the ukulele. They’re genuine American musical treasures with an international following for their folk, country and family music. Together they’ve made more than 30 audio and video recordings, received 14 Grammy nominations, have entertained the Queen of Thailand, sung at the White House Easter Egg Roll, been keynote singers for the AFL-CIO, performed at hundreds of folk festivals, appeared on the Today Show and on National Public Radio. They’ve toured the US, Canada, Great Britain, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Israel.

Brook Adams

Brook Adams is a skilled ukulele and guitar player, as well as a singer and composer. His emotional songwriting and soulful whiskey voice evoke a timeless groove where the sounds of Bakersfield, New Orleans and the motor city coalesce. His surprising range of covers include Django Reinhart, Marvin Gaye, the Sex Pistols, Earth Wind and Fire, Frank Zappa and Sinatra, and Abbey Road On Ukulele (the entire album).

James Hill

Canada’s James Hill is an imaginative and versatile virtuoso who “tears up the uke” (AcousticGuitar.net). On his latest album, his genre-bending originals range in style from the bluegrass-tinged ‘Song for Cheri’ to the jazzy ‘Fleas My Dog Has’ to the remarkable ‘One Small Suite for Ukulele,’ an ambitious work in three movements written for ukulele and string quartet. He is heard frequently on CBC and NPR, and has shared billing with the world’s foremost ukulele players including Herb Ohta (Ohta-San), John King, Lyle Ritz and Benny Chong.
