Concert for Kids
Centrum’s annual Concert for Kids series concludes this Friday, August 5th, with a performance from longtime Centrum artist Lauren Sheehan.
The Concert for Kids begins at 11:00 a.m. at the Fort Worden Chapel, and is FREE for children ages 3 and up. Adult tickets are $5, and are available ONLY at the door.
Lauren Sheehan is a charismatic interpreter of songs learned from some of America's greatest folk and blues artists. She is a musical shape shifter, in one song making the willow weep and in another making the werewolf howl. "Lauren is a true entertainer, weaving the stories and history of the music into her performance and connecting with her audience on a personal level (Gray Eubank, Director, Portland Christmas Revels).”
Centrum thanks the Congdon-Hanson family for their generous support of youth programs.
After the concert, come to the lawn at the Fort Worden Commons for the final Free Fridays at the Fort concert, featuring Port Townsend Acoustic Blues Festival artist Orville Johnson.
Free Fridays at the Fort begins at noon on the lawn of the Fort Worden Commons, and is open to the public at no cost. Blankets and low back chairs are encouraged, and food is available for purchase from the Commons, or you’re welcome to bring your own.
Orville Johnson was a founding member of the legendary NW folk/rock group The Dynamic Logs and over the years has played with a diverse list of artists including Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett, John Hartford, Maria Muldaur, Richie Havens, Laura Love, blues artists John Cephas, Howard Armstrong, Sam Andrew (Big Brother and the Holding Company) and Mick Taylor (Rolling Stones). Known for his dobro and slide guitar stylings and soulful vocal acrobatics, Johnson has appeared on over 400 albums, as well as Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion, Jay Leno's Tonight Show and was featured in the 1997 film Georgia. He is also in demand as a teacher and author, writing for Acoustic Guitar and Fretboard Journal and teaching at prestigious workshops worldwide.
