Fun to be had at The Fort!

Dear Volunteer Friends,

I hope this finds you well, patiently hanging in there and full of the joys of spring!
Centrum Program Managers are forging ahead with their online workshops and performance scheduling which promises to be as imaginative and varied as ever.
This Sunday afternoon, April 11 is first Chamber Music concert of 2021.  There will be two more Chamber concerts to follow in May and June.  All concerts in this series will be online and followed by Artist Q&A.

Centrum’s next Communiversity online lecture is on Monday, April 12th featuring Sarah Vowell, bestselling author of nonfiction books on American history and culture.
Tickets for both these events are sold per household and available here – keep an eye on the calendar page for the full list of Centrum events:

With the accelerating vaccine rollout and move to Phase 3, Jefferson Country residents are cautiously venturing out and about as larger groups are permitted to gather.
While Centrum volunteers sadly won’t be needed again this season, there are still many reasons to frequent Fort Worden State Park and boundless activities to let you know about.

For anyone wanting to hone their volunteer skills, Friends of Fort Worden are looking for a volunteer manager for their Visitor Center and gift shop.  The new Fort Worden Visitor Center will feature interpretive exhibits and improved information resources for all things Fort Worden with a smaller gift shop space dedicated to fundraising. The center will be a collaborative project with other Fort Worden partner organizations.  Please contact volunteer@fwfriends.org for more information.

Like the Centrum staff, our partners at the Fort have been staying busy developing an astounding range of programs, lectures and workshops for all, from beginning Norwegian classes, all levels of woodworking classes, beeswax collage making, Citizen science projects, beach clean up days to counting abalone and all within the perimeter of Fort Worden!

The following is a selection of the those offered in the  coming weeks.

I’ll leave you with these dulcet tones from the Scottish Isles.
The  musical hightlight of my week is Peter McCracken’s Friday podcast Crackin’ the Vault a great way to kick off each weekend and learn about and listen to Centrum’s musical history from faculty legends to inspiring up and coming musicians.
A personal favorite is from a few weeks ago – Episode 34: Singers of Note, featuring Julie Fowlis, a Scottish folk singer from the Outer Hebrides who sings mostly in Scottish Gaelic.

Please stick with us – stay in touch, drop me a line, I’d love to hear what you’re up to.

We can’t wait to see you back at Centrum when our in person events resume

Happy Weekend and enjoy!
