As part of Centrum’s inaugural group of Emerging Artist Residents, Dave Kennedy will host an Open Studio to present new works of art at Fort Worden in Port Townsend. The Open Studio occurs from 5:30-8 p.m. on Friday, January 23 at Building #205, Fort Worden Way on the Fort Worden Campus in Port Townsend, WA. The studio is on the second floor.
Part of Kennedy’s interest is to re-contextualize everyday things in ways that allow them to have new meanings. Much of Kennedy’s work layers aspects of his dreams and interior conversations. The result is that his images become metaphors for something else- or personifications of an entirely different idea. Kennedy sees his approach as being alchemical, transforming the mundane to the precious. He sets out to imagine where reality, illusion, the personal and the social intersect.
Kennedy creates works that seeks to disrupt assumptions of time and history. He searches for ways to provide representations of himself in the world — something that is more than an adequate mirror for existence — in hopes to point to an alternative way of seeing and being seen.
