July 24: Keep On Keepin’ On Screening with Jazz Pianist Justin Kauflin

In partnership with Centrum’s Jazz Port Townsend, the Port Townsend’s historic Rose Theatre is pleased to welcome celebrated pianist, composer and producer Justin Kauflin, for a screening and Q&A following KEEP ON KEEPIN’ ON, the award-winning documentary about his mentorship and friendship with legendary trumpeter Clark Terry.

Blind since the age of 11, Kauflin forged ahead with his passion for music, and attended the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Residency, the Vail Jazz Workshop, as well as winning the VSA International Young Soloist Award and being voted Jazz Artist of the Year by VEER magazine.  And he was selected as a semifinalist in the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition.

KEEP ON KEEPIN’ ON records the remarkable bond that developed between Kauflin and Clark Terry, the 93-year-old jazz master who mentored Miles Davis, broke the color barrier as the first African-American to play on The Tonight Show as a staff musician, and is among the few performers to have played in both Count Basie’s and Duke Ellington’s bands.

KEEP ON KEEPIN’ ON with guest Justin Kauflin
Monday, July 24, 7:30 p.m.
Tickets at $10, available at the Rose box office or online beginning Monday, July 3, 2017.
