Centrum Presents
Join Centrum for the Opening Reception and Artist Walkthrough of meditation on: woven fishing ports, a new installation by visual artist ebere agwuncha, created during Centrum’s In the Making residency program.
Grounded in weaving, fishing histories, and cultural memory, agwuncha’s installation invites visitors into a tactile experience of nets as both material object and metaphor—connecting the craft of fishing to community, labor, and place.
Come meet the artist, explore the gallery, and hear directly from agwuncha about the work and the stories embedded in its making.

About the Artist
ebere agwuncha is an Igbo-American artist and educator born and based in Chicago, IL. Their practice draws from archives, personal stories, collected ephemera, and researched collections to create functional objects, sculpture, and site-responsive installations rooted in cultural preservation. Working across fibers, ceramics, and woodworking, agwuncha employs traditional craft techniques including basket weaving, cane wrapping, jute fish netting, willow weaving, and more.
In summer 2025, agwuncha began facilitating “woven together,” a series of free basket weaving workshops celebrating ancestral memory through collective making.
Centrum’s residency programs and exhibitions are made possible through the generosity of Sally Warren & Jeff Jackson, Cathy Sarkowsky, Cat Clifford, The Chin Family Foundation, The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, and numerous granting agencies.
